U11A Rounders v Witham Hall

Girls U11A Rounders v Witham Hall
On Wednesday 25th June – Away

On Wednesday the 25th June 2014 the U11 A team played against Witham Hall, away. We won the toss and chose to field first. Witham were good hitters and they could all hit the ball very far. Unfortunately we all seemed quite nervous and Witham managed to score a lot of rounders. Molly did an amazing catch and by the end of the first innings Witham had scored 8 rounders. Our turn came to bat and Witham managed to get a lot of us out at first post. Pippa scored a tremendous 2 ½ rounders and Molly scored an excellent 2 rounders. Witham fielded very well and at the end of the innings we had scored 6 ½ rounders. It was our turn to field again and everybody felt more confident. Freya and Ellie both got a superb catch. We tried hard but Witham were still that bit better. Unfortunately Witham scored another 8 rounders scoring 16 in total. It was the last innings and we were batting. We all knew we needed a lot of rounders to catch up with them. Molly scored another great 2 ½ rounders. Unfortunately Witham got most of us out so with 5 balls still left there were only 2 girls left-Freya and Georgina. They made a good effort but just couldn’t get round in time. We scored 4 ½ rounders scoring 11 in total. Witham were an outstanding team and we weren’t quite up to their standard. However our team made a great effort despite having one man down-Jojo but in the end the score was 16-11 to Witham. Well done to the whole team. The team was Molly J, Gracie F, Eleanor B, Freya A, Eloise F, Pippa N, Antonia V and Georgina T (captain).

Year 6 visit from the Master Composters

Year 6 went on safari and spotted tigers!

OK, it was a compost safari and they were tiger worms, but it was still an exciting morning. Master composters, Rod and Ted from Leicester City Council came to visit. We hunted around in compost and found pot worms, centipedes and slugs etc, and we magnified their slimy images on Rod’s computer screen. We went head first into the wormery and dug out all sorts, including ants eggs, worm eggs and fungal threads.

We also learned how to turn kitchen rubbish into soil. We  their buckets of grass, straw, shredded paper and herbs to construct our own Rot Bots so that we can watch the composting process at home over the summer.Image  ImageImage! ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Senior School Sports Day 2014

On a gloriously sunny Friday, the senior school got together to demonstrate their sporting prowess in front of a packed stand of spectators at Rockingham Triangle. Although it may have been Friday the 13th, the day was very lucky for some!

Seahorses claimed the top spot, scoring 436 points; while Tadpoles beat out the Minnows to sneak second place – their total of 408 just edging them past the Minnows’ respectable 384. The Sticklebacks brought up the rear with 326 points scored.

Year 6 Champion Girl was a joint affair this year, with Antonia V and Eleanor B sharing the honour. Finley F’s wins in the 80m, 150m, and the High Jump secured his place as Year 6 Champion Boy.

Victrix Ludorem went to Jemima P for her stellar performances in the 100m, Long Jump, High Jump, and 200m. Victor Ludorem went to an unsurprised Harry M, who won all five of his events: 100m, 200m, Long Jump, High Jump, and Javelin.

It was a fantastic and thrilling day, with records falling left right and centre.

Year 5/6 Boys & Girls Tennis

Year 5/6 Boys & Girls Tennis v Leicester Grammar – Away
On Monday 9th June

Sixteen children from Years 5 and 6 went to play tennis against Leicester Grammar. They played some singles and doubles matches. They all played for a certain length of time until the whistle blew to end the match and then the score was recorded.

Leicester Grammar had a very competent Year 6 girl who was quite highly ranked. Our Number 1, Archie Gi played her. It was an extremely close, entertaining match, of the highest standard. Archie kept his cool and worked at her weaknesses (not that there were many). The final score was 6-3 to Archie. A great performance!

The only other singles match was Arche Go, who had a thrilling match, eventually coming through 7-6.

The remaining players all played doubles. The girls were unbeaten in all their matches. Eleanor B and Clemmy P had a great match with their opponents, winning 6-4 but the other were, unfortunately, not so well matched and we won comfortably.

I was most impressed with Alfie W, who was the only Year 5 boy, and his partner Patrick Bairstow. They played some lovely tennis and won their match 7-4.

The full results were as follows:

Boys Team:
Archie Gi – won 6-3
Dom A & Finley F – lost 4-7
Oliver M & Jamie B – lost 3-8
Alfie W & Patrick B – won 7-4
Archie Go – won 7-6

Girls Team:
Gracie F & Molly J – won 8-1
Eleanor B & Clemmy P – won 6-4
Pippa N & Georgina T – won 5-0
Bea R & Rebecca M – won 5-0

Congratulations to all our players for their excellent performances.

Equestrian Team

On Thursday 29th May the Stoneygate School Equestrian Team represented the school in a show jumping competition organised by Wellingborough School.  The team were Charlotte, on her pony ‘Mr Fudge Brown’, Louise, on ‘Percy’, Phillip on ‘Zorro’ and Jasmine riding ‘Pudsey Bear’. The riders had to get their ponies ready and looking smart for the first class that they entered, which was to jump fences with a height of between 70-75 centimetres.   The children have to remember the correct order of the jumps and also part of the course is timed so they have to ride as fast as they can whilst being very careful not to knock any fences down.  All the children rode brilliantly with a clear round.  There were about eight schools jumping plus about another twenty children who had entered as individuals.  Stoneygate team came second overall and Louise also came second as an individual, which were both brilliant results.  It also means that they qualify for the National Finals.  The next class the children competed in was the 80-85cm jumps.  The pressure was on for this class and again the whole team rode well but this time they managed to accumulate some time faults and they finished seventh overall.  I would like to congratulate the children on their fantastic achievement and for representing the school so well.
If any other children are interested in joining the equestrian team next year please come and talk to me.
