Year 2 Visit Foxton Locks

On Tuesday Year 2 had a fantastic time at Foxton Locks. We were so pleased to meet with the volunteers from The Canal Explorers Trust again. We split into two groups and went to explore The Grand Union Canal, look for wildlife in the canal and surrounding areas and even open some locks! We also visited the museum and met Penny who showed us all around the canal, she was very impressed by all of our knowledge on canals! After lunch a folk singer called Bubbles came and sang canal folk songs with us. It was great fun to learn about ‘legging’ and the Navvies through singing and actions. Then it was time to head back up to the top car park to the minibus… and grab an ice cream on the way! What a fantastic day we all had!!

The Pre Prep Christmas Show.

Mrs Mills and Mrs Farrow would like to say how proud they are of all of the Year 2 children. They have all worked so hard to learn their lines and dances. They have been very sensible during rehearsals and really listened to instructions.

We are sure you will all agree that they all performed brilliantly!!

Everyone really enjoyed taking part and entertaining you all.

Merry Christmas!!

Year 2 walk around Great Glen

On Tuesday Year 2 spent a lovely frosty morning in Great Glen as part of their topic on ‘Our Local Area’. We looked at the local features, points of interest, thought about directions and noticed road names, shops and useful signs around the village. We stopped at the Post Office to post our envelopes that we had previously addressed. Everyone is excited to receive their letters with a special note inside from Mrs Mills and Mrs Farrow. Then we went into the Post Office to spend the £1 we had on a special treat. Then we strode to the park, ate out treats and had a play. On the way back to school we followed a secret pathway, saw the church and headed back up the hill to school in time for lunch!

Year 2

Year 2 had great fun today in their science lesson.

They experimented with static electricity investigating what happens

when static attracts or repels different materials.

Year 2 visit St Cuthbert’s Church in Great Glen

Today Year 2 visited St Cuthberts church in Great Glen as part of their topic on ‘Our Local Area’. Volunteers kindly gave up their time to show us around the church and explain about the different areas of importance. We enjoyed learning about the alter, organ, lectern, pulpit, font, stained glass windows and the bell tower. It was a very interesting morning and the children came back to school full of knowledge about an important building in their local area.

Year 2 visit Great Glen Library

Year 2 enjoyed our visit to Great Glen library. We marched down London Road at a great speed and everyone crossed the roads carefully and sensibly. When we reached the library we spent some time talking about the facilities, resources and information available to us. Some of us were surprised to learn how useful the library can be!

We then looked at different books and relaxed in the quiet atmosphere, before hot footing it back to school for break time.

Year 2

We are so proud of two girls in Year 2 for their wonderful achievements at the weekend.
Imagine being a Champion Lead Rein show pony of the year finalist in the world famous Horse of The Year Show, getting through to the top ten in the UK. Or achieving your Twinkle Graduation on the cello and receiving a wonderful trophy.
Congratulations both of you!!

Miss Finn becomes Mrs Hunt.

On Saturday 3rd September Miss Finn celebrated her wedding to Mr James Hunt at St James the Greater Church. Despite the rainy day the ceremony was beautiful with some lovely hymns and a choir. The children from 2JV ( last term) had made the bride a fantastic good luck charm which she wore on the day. The couple then went on to celebrate at their reception, held at Brooksby Hall, where the weather had improved, enabling some lovely photos to be taken in the beautiful surroundings. Later that evening many of her Stoneygate friends joined her to dance the night away!

Good luck for your future together Mr and Mrs Hunt.

Year 2

Air Raid Shelter

Year 2 got to experience what a WWII Anderson Air Raid Shelter would have been like this week. We created one in the summer house using authentic posters, blankets, board games, newspapers, knitting and even rationed carrot biscuits.

What a lovely practical way to find out more about WWII life!

Charnwood museum

had an exciting time learning all about WWII life in Loughborough and looking at interesting artefacts.

Then we all excelled ourselves cracking very difficult spy codes!

Mythical Greek Creatures

We enjoyed creating our own ‘Chimaera’ Greek myth creatures. We used adjectives to describe them. The results were very impressive and beastly!!

Tally Charts

Year 2 enjoyed data handling in their maths lessons this week. As one of our topics is WWII we used fighter planes as the focus for our tally charts. Then we transferred the information to block graphs and answered questions on the information we had collected.
