Tigers Matchday Coaching Clinic

On Friday twenty eight boys from Years 5, 6 and 7 had a real treat when they took part in a Tigers Matchday Coaching Clinic.
First of all they received an hour and a half of rugby coaching from the Tigers academy and community coaches. This was great fun and a chance to play at Oval Park, where the Tigers train.

Next they met a Tigers player, Terrance Hepetema, who answered their questions and signed lots of autographs.
We then moved to the Tigers Ground where we were able to soak up the atmosphere in our seats close to the pitch and the try line. After a trip to the shop and some food outlets the boys were ready to enjoy the match between Tigers and Harlequins.

We still had more fun to come though, as we were allowed onto the pitch at halftime to have our photo taken and to wave at the crowd.

Finally, when we returned to the stand we were met by Charlie Walker. He attended Stoneygate and he is now a professional rugby player. He has made nineteen appearances for the Harlequins first team and has also played for England at U18 and U20 Level and in the Sevens World Series.

Charlie remembers with affection his years at Stoneygate and he paid particular tribute to Mr Stocks for all the encouragement that he gave him in his early years. We in turn remember Charlie as one of the best sportsmen ever to have passed through Stoneygate. He has been recovering from an injury for several months now, but he is hoping to make a start for Harlequins next weekend. We look forward to following the rest of his rugby career.

An enjoyable afternoon and evening was finished off in style when the final whistle signalled a win to the Tigers 22-16 (Sorry, Charlie!!).

Many thanks go to all the children that attended, to the excellent Tigers coaches and staff, to Mr Stocks, Mr Hackney and Mr Jelly for their help with the organization and to the parents for their support.
