The forwards were dominant in all phases winning quick ball to allow half-backs, Sam, Jon and Philip the room to dictate the game. Swift handling allowed our outside players, Harry and Finley to display their running skills.

Well done boys! A very good performance.

Score: Stoneygate 73 – Lichfield 5

Scorers: Harry 5 tries, Jon 2 tries; Sam, Pip, Ollie and Fin one try each. Pip 9 conversions.

Come and support the boys on Wednesday in their final game against Wellingborough. (At home on the school pitch with a 2.30 kick off.)

RUGBY COLTS A TEAM v LICHFIELD CATHEDRAL SCHOOL – Friday 15th November 2013

STONEYGATE 38, LICHFIELD 7

The Colts A team consisting of Archie Gi (Captain), Fin F, Patrick B, Henry B, Thomas B, Dom A, Jamie B, Ed B, Henry V, Kian B, Arjun S and Henry W played Lichfield Cathedral School on a good day for Rugby.

Having waited nearly an hour for the opposition to show Stoneygate did not fall into the trap of being caught cold. Lichfield started the game at a very high tempo following an extensive warm up and motivation talk from their master. Stoneygate however were ready for them and repelled attack after attack. Tackling of the highest order from every player in red kept the opposition at bay and a break away try from Kieran B followed by a conversion by Finn F saw Stoneygate take a well deserved lead. More pressure from Lichfield playing down the slope ensued and eventually a try was scored and converted by them leaving the score level at half time.

Now Stoneygate had the slope in their favour and straight from the kick off Henry B took the ball and ran straight through the opposition leading to a try by Finn F in the corner. Stoneygate took the game to Lichfield and by running straight gave room out wide where they moved the ball quickly. Further tries from Finn F for his hat trick plus one each for Ed B and Tom B saw Stoneygate run riot in the second half producing probably their best performance of the term.

Man of the match was difficult to give to one person so the whole team received it. A rewarding afternoon for all against tough opposition determined to win the game.

Thanks once again to our parents who witnessed Stoneygate play with sportsmanship, skill and flair, never taking a step backwards and showing a determination to beat a difficult team so comprehensively.
