The Year 3 girls played a netball match against Great Houghton on Tuesday in some glorious sunshine.

Stoneygate started well with some excellent linking play from Hannah and a goal each from Amy and Evie.  During the second quarter Joanna scored 2 super goals and Gizella marked her opponent superbly.  At half time we talked about watching the ball while you are defending and making safe accurate passes, which we improved on during the second half.

The third quarter saw a goal from Great Houghton and some stiff defence, but Tasia and Eliza worked really hard to push the ball back up the court and defended well.  During the final quarter Millie had to work really hard against a very tenacious Great Houghton defender, but she read the game beautifully and scored a final goal for Stoneygate.

Final Score: Stoneygate 5 Great Houghton 1

A very well deserved win for an enthusiastic, determined and hard working team and well done for great team work.

Colts Soccer v Great Houghton

The Colts Soccer squad continued their run of good form, with two impressive performances against Great Houghton.  Despite the threat of wind and rain, the matches were played in good conditions.  The grass pitch was muddy, but it did not stop both the A and B teams playing their passing game and dominating the opposition.

In the first game the A IX (seen above after the final whistle) won 8-2. The goals came from : Patrick 3, Archie Go 2, Kian 2 and Fin.

Man of the Match was Archie Gi and the Champagne Moment came from Archie Go, scoring his second goal with a super long range shot.  The Great Houghton coach commented on how well Dom and Fin played, but it was also a fine team effort and everyone contributed to the result.

In the second game our B team consisted of : Alfie (captain), Matthew, Ed, Will H, Bertie, Hugo, Jamie, Jack and Oli, with substitutes Will R and Caspian.

We dominated this match even more and scored ten goals, without reply.  Ed scored four, Matthew three, Bertie two and Jack one.  Man of the match went to Ed for his superb second half performance.  He used all his turning and dribbling skills to great effect, scoring four goals in a row.  Champagne Moment went to Jack for his composure when under pressure as the last man in the defence.  Once again this was a true team performance.

We are very lucky to have such strength in depth in the squad this year.  However, we will face a strong challenge next week, when all thirty five Colts travel away to Wellingborough to play five matches.

Year 3 Netball

Joanna, Gizella, Evie, Millie, Amy, Tasia, Hannah, Eliza

The Year 3 girls have made a flying start with their netball this term, with a huge amount of enthusiasm and determination.

We have learnt and been concentrating on chest and shoulder passes, attacking, defending and dodging along with the court positions, rules of the game and how to play a match. All the girls have a sound knowledge of the game and of match etiquette.

The girls were very excited before our first match, which was at home against Stamford. We had two teams and thank you to the Year 4 girls who came and made up the second team. After a tentative start, we soon managed to find our feet and everybody had a good match. The captains were Joanna and Hannah and the final scores were 4 – 0 to Stoneygate and 1 – 0 to Stamford.

Our second match was away at Great Houghton and approached with great excitement. We played as one team and rotated positions each quarter. There was some fantastic play in defence from Gizella and Joanna and Evie and Tasia found lots of space whilst attacking. Stoneygate dominated throughout and were the better team on the day with a 4 – 0 win. Evie was the captain.

Finally, our team of 7 (one away) captained by Gizella travelled to Wellingborough who have 19 girls in this year group. We were very confident throughout both matches and won 6 – 0 against their A team and 1 – 0 against their B’s. Well done to Evie who scored 5 goals and Joanna and Millie who scored 1. Amy worked extremely hard in defence and intercepted well and Hannah made safe passes enabling us to move the ball towards our goal.

A fantastic start, well done to all the girls.
