Team: Oliver H, Henry V, Harry B, Edward B, Kian B, Kai W, Tom B, Oliver M, Patrick B, Hugo F, Henry W
Witham batted first but struggled to cope with some accurate Stoneygate bowling. Tom B and Edward B both took three wickets and Harry B took two. Witham scored 103 for eight wickets in their 20 overs.
Stoneygate batted positively and a fine stand of 40 runs between Oliver H (23) and Tom B (12) set them on the road to victory. Patrick B (10) and Oliver M (5) saw them home to 104 for 8 with two overs to spare.
An excellent win for the Colts B – well played all!
On Wednesday the Colts B cricket team travelled away to Maidwell Hall to play their first match of the season. The team was Archie Go, Ed B, Oliver H, Henry, Patrick, Karan, Will, Henry, Tom, Oliver M and Kai.
In near perfect conditions, the boys produced a most entertaining game, with both sides having periods where they dominated the play.
Maidwell batted first and scored 91-8 in their 20 overs. Our top bowlers were Oliver H and Archie Go with two wickets each and Harry B who only conceded seven runs in his three overs, with one wicket. Accurate bowling kept the extras to an acceptable level and as we went to tea we felt we had a good chance of winning.
The first over of our innings was the most eventful of the match. Archie Go hit six runs off the bat, but with the final two balls we managed to contrive to lose two batsman to run outs! However, we settled and some good batting from Archie (16 runs), Oliver H (6 runs) and Harry (9 runs) put us ahead of the required rate. We lost a few more wickets, but with eleven balls to spare we passed the Maidwell total to record a victory.
The ‘Man of the Match’ award went to Harry for his fine batting and bowling and the ‘Champagne Moment’ award went to Kai for his important wicket in the final over.
This was a most pleasing start to the season, with the whole team making a contribution.
