Carol Service Preparations

Rehearsals are well underway for this year’s Carol Service. It will be held on Thursday 11 December at 2.30pm in St James the Greater Church, Leicester. It involves all pupils from Yr 3 – 8 and we have a few special touches this year.

The Little Drummer Boy will feature a drumline – seen below. They are being rehearsed by Mr Hudson and it is going very well. You see them rehearsing on wooden stools in order to preserve their hearing!

Make a Joyful Noise has been specially written for the Carol Service by Mr Ashwin. This will feature a samba group and they also rehearsed today (although I was so busy with my whistle that I forgot to take a picture!). This has been inspired by our work with Mr Davis from Oakham School and we will be playing our new samba kit instruments for the first time in public. Many thanks to the SSA for their help in funding these instruments: we love them!

Junior Choir and Senior Choir are making great progress on their pieces and the memorising is starting to click into place. Junior Orchestra will make its first appearance at the Carol Service, playing a medley of Christmas melodies and Senior Orchestra has been working hard since September on their two pieces. I am delighted with their effort and enthusiasm and look forward to sharing the music with family and friends in St James the Greater.

Singing at South Lodge Care Home

On Thursday 5 Dec, twenty-four of our most dedicated singers got in the minibuses and went to South Lodge Care Home in Stoneygate, Leicester. We were welcomed very warmly by a large audience that more than filled the room in which we were performing. Our team sang some pieces that we had been learning for the Carol Service and some that we had learned specially for this concert. Amongst the songs was Walking in the Air, Miri It Is and In the Bleak Midwinter. We also had a solo from Charlotte W. and ensemble performances from a Year 5 group (Bea, Megan, Annabelle and Elizabeth) and a Year 6 group (Freya (vocals and saxophone), Antonia, Caitlin and Gracie).

 South Lodge Concert

All performers had attended extra rehearsals and performed very well in an unfamiliar setting. We had some lovely reactions from the residents at the South Lodge and hope we brought them some Christmas cheer!

Well done to everyone involved.
