On Friday 17th March, the whole of Year 2, 3 and 4 headed off to Kettering to take part (as we do every year) in the Kettering and District Eisteddfod. We had worked hard on these pieces since January and had learned our words, rehearsed on stage, practised our singing postures and all of the rest. When we got to Kettering, we were ready to go!
To cut a long story short, all the groups performed beautifully. They were full of energy and sang with precision, clear diction, good intonation and presented the text appropriately. There were some touching solos and powerful strong singing to contrast.
We received some very fair feedback from the adjudicator, Mrs Bowman, and some super marks. There were also very nice comments from the stewards, and I was very pleased to hear how well they thought our children listened to the other schools.
A big part of the reason that we go every year is to hear other choirs. Another reason is that is gives us a very public performance to work towards and knowing that we are going to be on a big stage in front of lots of people gives the children great motivation to work hard in the preparation phase. Taking away the huge shield was the icing on the cake. Stoneygate choirs received first place in all of the classes that we entered and a lot of this was down to the commitment and teamwork that the children showed in their performances.
All the staff that went along were very proud and I came back to school totally exhausted, but utterly delighted!
Well done to everyone in Year 2, 3 and 4!
Mrs Ashwin
