Nervous excitement hangs in the air at Stoneygate as we begin this half term week. We wish Year 3 & 4 pupils well on their residential trip to Caythorpe Manor; the pupils certainly looked excited, the parents slightly nervous and the staff somewhere in between!
We also need to wish our Year 8 pupils good luck with the forthcoming Common Entrance exams. Again, they will be nervous, but that is normal- they are prepared and I’m sure will do themselves, their families and this school proud.
I’m pleased to announce that decorators will be in school next week. The main atrium and the corridors in the ‘new block’ will be the first areas to receive a ‘make-over’, with more rooms due to be decorated over the summer period. We hope to transform the atrium into the ‘Gate Modern’ (apologies for this awful pun). This will become an area where we can proudly display the very best work that our pupils produce.
I’m sorry I missed the Pre-prep Choir concert on Tuesday (due to teaching commitments), but I heard wonderful things about it, especially their rendition of ‘the Lighthouse’. Well done to the Year 6 pupils for their assembly based on ‘Choices’- it was really good to see our pupils doing imaginative follow-up work/drama after their trip to the ‘Warning Zone’.
I heard Reception pupils had a wonderful time at Twycross Zoo, as did our Year 4 pupils as they travelled back in time, to the era of the Blitz with a trip to Beaumanor Hall.
The photos show our Year 4 evacuees and the Year 4 assembly on ‘Choices’.
Well done to all those who have represented us at cricket, rounders and golf- with special mention to our first XI with Siddharth & Archie putting on a partnership of over 100 (Archie scoring 70) and to the Colts with Will and Arush also putting on a partnership of over 100 (with Arush scoring 51). Congratulations also to Spike and Thomas for representing us in the ISGA golf matches.
Well done to this week’s ‘Stars of the Week’ and Headmaster’s Awards…
Kai (7MH) for outstanding IT work
Mia (8DP) for continued effort & improvement in Maths
