It’s exactly four weeks to go until Mr Ashwin sets off on his Ironman triathlon challenge! He can’t quite believe where the time has gone, and wonders if perhaps it’s all a rather crazy dream . . . !
But reality sets in once more as he heads off for an early morning lake swim at the weekend, then hops on his bike and battles through the wind for six hours in the Leicestershire countryside! Then it’s trainers on and out of the door for a run, grabbing an energy bar and some Jelly Babies on the way!
The Ironman is a 140.6-mile endurance event, with a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, topped off with a marathon, 26.2 miles. He has seventeen hours to finish the event, starting at 6am on July 19th in Lancashire.
Here are a couple of photos from recent training; he couldn’t quite manage a smile on either! The first is after he finished the 3km Eton Swim event last month (met at the finish line by his brother) and the second is after his first 100-mile ride of the year, a few weeks back.
A huge thank you to everyone who has already sponsored Mr Ashwin and shown their support. If you would like to contribute to his fundraising for the Meningitis Research Foundation, please visit the following Just Giving page:
On this page you’ll find lots more info about the reason he is supporting this amazing charity. Mr Ashwin suffered from severe bacterial meningitis as a three-month old, and would like to give something back. The target is £2000, and with your help, he is well on his way to smashing this total!
