I am delighted to announce that Charlotte W has been selected as a winner of the Royal Opera House’s Fanfare Competition. All Year 8 pupils spent their music lessons from January to early February composing a 30-second fanfare. All were recorded and entered into the fanfare competition. Late Friday afternoon on 27 February, the school received a phone call informing us that Charlotte had been selected as one of the 12 winners and that she had to go down to London on the following Monday or Tuesday. So on Tuesday 3rd March, Charlotte got on an early train with her dad to the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and got to work with members of their orchestra and a professional composer. The aim was to turn Charlotte’s keyboard piece into an orchestral piece.
If you go to http://www.roh.org.uk/learning/schools-and-colleges/fanfare, you can hear Charlotte’s original entry. The members of the orchestra will record the orchestral version at the end of April and then it will be played at the Royal Opera House to mark the start of performances.
This is a huge achievement and the second time that we have had a winner from Stoneygate School – the first winners were George D and William W in 2013.
