U10B Netball v Stamford

On Friday 6th March – Away

Team: Jessica S, Emily M, Megan G, Bea R, Millie L, Polly M, (each played all 4 quarters) Daisy P, Jemima M-C, Katie M and Millie P (played a quarter each).

Due to injuries and illnesses we were 4 players short for this team and so borrowed from the U11s. Jessica, Megan, Emily and Bea from the U11s helped out the team. Because of this we were too strong for Stamford but our U10s stepped up to the mark and competed equally with the older girls. They complimented each other well.

After an initial tentative start, going 1-0 down after a very short time, we got into gear and dominated play. Stamford play with size 5 balls and with the nets set at 10ft, both of which we do not do. Once the girls had got used to the ball size we gained in confidence and had the majority of the ball. It took quite a few attempts at goal to work out how to get the ball through the net but towards the end of the first quarter we managed it. Then there was no stopping Megan who scored 3 quite rapidly and Daisy scored 1.

The second and third quarters were quiet in terms of goals. We scored 2 and Stamford 1. In the final quarter Millie P moved to the ‘B’ team to play GA. It was as if she had always played with the nets so high. She scored 4 goals but several were from quite a distance from the post. There was plenty of cheering from our supporters, which really lifted the girls and quite rightly so. It was a superb performance from a team that had never played together before……………………….not that you would have guessed though!

Final score: Stoneygate won 10 – 2

Player of the match (nominated by Stamford) Millie P for her excellent shooting
