YEAR 5 SOCCER V WITHAM HALL YEAR 6 C and D TEAMS

The year 5 soccer teams played away to the year 6 C and D teams of Witham Hall on Wednesday 25th February. This was due to the fact the year 6 boys were playing their second hockey match away to Stamford and thus were not available for selection.

CITY TEAM 12, WITHAM HALL C TEAM 0
SCORERS: Will M 5, Dan R 3, Max W 2 and George B 2

The City team consisted of Max W (Captain), Tom M (Goal Keeper), George B, Will McE, George H (late replacement), Will M and Dan R.

It was early on in the game when it became apparent the City team were far too strong for the Witham boys. Rarely did the opposition get into Stoneygate’s half and when they did the well organised defence lead by Will McE ensured it was not for long. With overlapping full backs in the guise of George B and George H attacks were many and chances came and went. Will M had most of these and until he began to show composure on the ball, the majority were missed. Max W and Dan R played in the wide positions and the opposition had no answer for them. Tom M in goal had very little to do. Half time score 3 – 0.

Second half the flood gates opened and wave after wave of attacks lead to many more chances and goals even when the team was reduced to five! Champagne moment though came from our goal keeper, Tom M. He had very little to do yet he kept his concentration throughout and made a fantastic save at the end of the game to keep a clean sheet.

Man of the Match was difficult to select but was given to George H who played a magnificent game, never missing a tackle and showing great composure on the ball when passing.

UNITED TEAM 3, WITHAM HALL D TEAM 2
SCORERS: James B 2, Max H

The United team played a very entertaining game and throughout attempted to pass the ball on the ground as opposed to simply kicking it. Despite playing against larger and quicker boys the passing skills prevailed and Stoneygate lead throughout.

Special mention should go to Alex M and Ed B who played the whole match from the start and performed well. Ed B picked up the man of the Match trophy for his performance and James B was awarded the Champagne Moment accolade for a wonderful strike for one of his goals.

Well done everyone who played. thanks to the parents who travelled to watch and a special thank you to the returning Mr Thompson who acted as coach for the United team on the day.
