Squad: Hattie, Fran, Tallulah, Katie, Millie P, Millie L, Milly B, Eleanor, Polly, Daisy, Liana
Eleven of the U’10 girls made the trip to Witham Hall on rather a damp and drizzly afternoon. As we didn’t have sufficient girls to field an A and B team some of the girls played for both teams against the two Witham teams.
The first match was played on wet grass which made the run of the ball very slow. The Witham team made frequent changes to their team as they had a large squad. The Stoneygate girls tried out different positions and did well to maintain their strong running in attack to win 5-4. Daisy (3) and Millie B (2) shared the 5 goals.
Special mentions must go to Daisy for her increased level of running throughout the match and her superb 3 goals. Also to Polly who produced positive stick work in her defensive position and broke down the Witham attacks with the help of Eleanor.
Player of the match goes to Millie L who worked tirelessly throughout the whole match, showing her high fitness level and determination to win the ball. Millie also made her first appearance later in the A team.
The next match was on the astro surface and Witham fielded a strong hitting team. Stoneygate began their match rather tentatively and Witham dominated, scoring 4 goals. However the girls were able to turn this match around and they held Witham to 0-0 in the 2nd half. Their confidence grew and our midfield and attacking players created far more chances as the match progressed. Milly B, Tallulah, Katie and Millie P linked together well.
A few positional changes in defence were made and this meant that Witham’s progress in attack was prevented. Well done to our defensive players – Hattie, Liana and Fran.
Special mention goes to Hattie for her super string of saves in goal, some using her stick and others were kicked assertively away from her goal.
Player of the match and of the day goes to Katie who worked hard at getting involved with play and played intelligently, looking for the accurate pass to her team mates.
This was the final hockey fixture for the U’10s. They have had a good season, establishing some positive play, team work and stick skills in their first season together. They are ready now to build on this next season.
Thanks go to the support on the side line from parents and grand parents, it has been much appreciated!
