Colts Soccer v Fairfield and end of season awards

On Wednesday the Colts played their final game of the soccer season, at home, against the traditionally strong opponents of Fairfield. They are fortunate enough to have around 130 boys in their Colts squad, compared to our 36.

Hence, we expected the A match to be tough and it was!  Fairfield scored within two minutes and looked very confident of getting more. However, after this early shock we settled and defended well. We looked dangerous on the break and to our delight we stole an equaliser. A powerful shot from Archie Go was parried away, but Fin pounced to smash a shot home. For a while we hoped it might be a replay of the Manchester United v Bayern Munich match, but it wasn’t to be. Fairfield got a lucky deflection to take the lead and in the last minute, as we gambled on getting an equaliser, they scored again to win 3-1.  When we discovered after the game that Fairfield were the IAPS County Champions we realised we had done well to stay in the match for so long.

In the B match it was widely acknowledged that our boys were the better team. We passed the ball beautifully and scored three goals, two from Alfie and one from Kian. Unfortunately, Fairfield also scored three to snatch a draw.

In the C match the boys produced one of their best performances of the term, but sadly they were defeated 0-2.

After tea the boys, parents and staff moved to the foyer for our end of season awards, in front of our new ‘Sport’ pop up display.

For the A team Fin won Player of the Season and Hotshot (for his 20 goals), Dom won Defender of the Season and Arjun won the Most Improved Player award.

For the B team Alfie was the Player of the Season, Matthew was Hotshot, Jack was Defender of the Season and Hugo was the Most Improved Player.

For the C team Kian won Player of the Season, Harry was Defender of the Season and Henry won Most Improved Player.

Earlier in the week Alex B was awarded D team Player of the Season and Henry T won E team Player of the Season.

Many thanks go to all the parents who have supported the boys throughout a very successful soccer season.
